Normandy
We took a guided tour of the Normandy area.
Being there and viewing the coastline you have a real understanding of the solders went through.
Robert Wright and Kenneth Moore were 19 and 20 years old with two weeks for medical training. Their regiment landed near Utah Beach and were under attack. Looking for a suitable site to setup a first aid station, they decided on the small church in the center of the village. The first evening they were treating dozens of wounded soldiers. They treated all wounded including the Germans with the agreement all guns stayed outside. For three days they treated over 70 casualties with no sleep.
Blood stains are still visible on the pews.
Half of Robert's ashes are in the church cemetery and half in his home town.
One of the paratroopers was stuck on the church tower in Saint Mere Eglise
Rudy collected sand from Utah Beach
An hour later the tide was up to where he was standing.
